Reuse

Preserving, describing, and disseminating heritage has been the mission of the BNE for more than three hundred years. In the digital environment we also aim to facilitate the generation of new knowledge and innovative creations based on collections, data and digital tools.

Because we believe in the social and economic value of our heritage.

Inspiration

To show some possibilities of what can be created (re) using the digital collections and data of the BNE is the first step. They have inspired us and we want to inspire.

We want to show new, creative and useful projects to learn, investigate, innovate and share culture.

Participation

We want to promote the use of the digital heritage of the BNE in the educational, scientific and academic community and also in new sectors: tourism, design, fashion, music, gastronomy … and this is a necessarily cooperative process.

We will provide tools and platforms that allow this collaborative approach.

Enrichment

The cultural heritage we harbor should be only a starting point. That society enrich it by adding social, cultural, educational or technological value, with the BNE as a catalyst, is the means.

That the creation in the process belongs to everyone, and we do it ours and manages to enrich lives, is the goal.

BNElab comprises a multidisciplinary team of professionals from the Digital Content, Portals and Social Media Dissemination Service at the Biblioteca Nacional de España, in collaboration with the public corporate entity Red.es, which is run by the Ministry of the Economy and Business.
