The authority file offers access to over 300,000 authority records from the headings used in the catalogue bibliographic records. Authority records standardise the heading used in bibliographic records as access points, associated to a person, corporate entity, title or subject, and pursuant to the regulations of specific IFLA Working Groups.

In addition to conventional library formats, the Biblioteca Nacional de España offers its semantic catalogue, which applies Semantic Web technologies and enriches records with external sources such as Wikidata. This initiative was launched by publishing information from catalogues according to the principles of Linked Data, making them available in RDF (Resource Description Framework).

Data are presented in original format (MARC and MARC-XML) and also mapped and transformed into CSV, JSON, ODS, TXT and XML formats. A series of MARC fields and subfields to recover and display were established for each type of record, and a text was defined to describe the data displayed.
