Hispanic Digital Library

The Hispanic Digital Library (Biblioteca Digital Hispánica, BDH, in Spanish) offers free access to thousands of digitised documents held at the Biblioteca Nacional de España, including books printed from the 15th to 19th centuries, manuscripts, drawings, engravings, posters, photographs, maps, atlases, music scores, historic press and audio recordings. Created in 2008, today it already offers over 221,000 titles (February 2019) of all subjects and document types, available to anyone and from anywhere.

Different BDH datasets have been released for different criteria:

  • Complete distribution of the entire BDH.
  • Specific datasets by type of document: books, manuscripts, drawings, etc.
  • Datasets corresponding to highlighted collections: Art, Cartography, Cervantes, Golden Age Theatre, etc.

Our catalogue records, coded at source in MARC format, were mapped and transformed to create these datasets. A series of MARC fields and subfields to recover and display were established for each type of record, and a text was defined to describe the data displayed.

The result is transformed into CSV, JSON, ODS, TXT and XML.
